In November 2006 the Sustainable Development & Environment Section of the Ministry of Physical Development Environment & Housing, held its annual Energy Awareness Week. The week was held under the theme, Energy Management for Sustainable Development.

The planning committee for Energy Awareness Week comprised of various agencies. Represented were the Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC), Caribbean Electricity Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC), Solar Dynamics, Public Utilities Department and the Electrical Department of the Ministry of Communication Works, Transport and Public Utilities, Caribbean Renewable Energy Development Program/ German Technical Arm (CREDP/GTZ) and this section.

The activities planned for this week are listed below:-

-         School Lectures

-          Energy Symposium

-         Energy Awareness Quiz

-         Newspaper supplement

All of the activities with the exception of the school lectures were executed.  The Energy Symposium was held in conjunction with CARILEC’s “Bio fuels and solar energy technologies - State-of-the- Art and potential applications in the Caribbean”, November 23-24, 2006.  Some of the topics covered at the symposium are as follows:- Solar Cooling technologies-options for hotels, industry and commerce, Bio-fuels: applications and experiences Europe and other Countries, LUCELEC: Status of Wind Park Planning,  and Report on Energy Audits conducted in local Hotels. The symposium ended with a Panel Discussion on Energy policy, Bio Fuels and Solar Energy and other renewable energies. Panelist included Dr. Raymond Wright, Mr. Thomas Schelutzlich and Chief Sustainable Development & Environment Officer Mr. Crispin d'Auvergne.
